Government Finances

I don't get why government thinks itself above financial reality. In a business, if revenue falls, spending falls — and then you plan to raise revenue again through productivity, new products, and rationalized expenditures.

Governments instead seem to think they have a God-given right to exist: as revenue falls, they raise taxes, cook the books, and cry about funding rather than shrinking. Of course we don't cut health and safety — but beyond that, everything is fair game until revenue rises again. Seems simple to me.
