Chinese 'Friends' and a Comment on Solyndra

Written in reply to a friend bemoaning the move of a GE division to China.

By moving manufacturing there, we get a temporary business bump for some US companies — but we share our technology with an economic competitor. They will copy everything and then produce more cheaply and sell to the rest of the world. There is no PayPal in China; Cisco constantly fights to protect its code; Foxconn, Apple's own manufacturer, was introducing a competing phone. Are we that stupid? Where will we employ people if we keep putting our own manufacturers out of business?
