Random Answers to a Random Huff Post Editorial

My point-by-point reply to an editorial on progressive taxation and the 1%.

The world is not static; the playing field will never be perfectly level, and the makeup of the 1% is always in flux, much like a star athlete's career. Gates, Jobs, Brin were not in the 1% just twenty years ago — their professions barely existed. Why single them out now as a resource to be exploited?

My view: 'the public' is the individual, each making decisions that, even from self-interested motives, tend to make life better for all of us. I'm deeply skeptical that collectivism can be made to work in a dynamic world.
